November 2012 Newsletter

Dear friend of Loaves & Fishes,

We are thankful for so many things at Loaves & Fishes – the good humor and resilience of our guests, the hard work of our volunteers, the very good, hot meals we are able to serve every day. But every so often, we receive an unsolicited thank you letter that just makes our day. We want to share the gratitude it expresses with you because it is your generosity that makes success stories like Henry’s a reality. When you sit at your Thanksgiving table this year, please know that Henry rightfully counts you as one of his blessings.

A Letter from Henry

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Henry. Let me tell you how you have helped me get my life back on track. I was a 30 year addict living my life but not really living at all. One day I lost everything. I lost all hope and faith in myself. I took only the clothes on my back and came to Loaves & Fishes.

Loaves & Fishes picked me up, cleaned me up and gave me hope during my time being homeless. I saw how homeless people were treated as second class citizens and criminals and so I joined with SafeGround to help people see how wrong the city law on this matter is.

During this time, I worked to fix my life. I was accepted into Quinn Cottages. With this further help, I am now 4 ½ years clean and sober. I have a class A commercial driver’s license, a full-time job and my own apartment. I am a taxpayer and a voter.

Thanks to all of you who helped me, my life is back on track.

At some point in all our lives, we all need someone to help us.

May God bless you in this life and the next.

Sincerely, Henry Harris

The essence of our ministry is people helping people, doing so with kindness and practicality, recognizing that each of us is a child of God worthy of respect. We thank you for joining in this ministry and wish you and yours a bountiful Thanksgiving.

Peace and Love,

Loaves & Fishes

P.S. Would you please help with our Thanksgiving preperations? Donations of turkeys, baked pies, canned string beans, and new socks will be gratefully accepted at our Warehouse, 1351 North C Street, November 9th-18th 7am-3pm and Monday, November 19th 6am-4pm. Thank You!
