Development Director

Mission Statement: in an environment of welcome, hospitality, safety and cleanliness we seek to provide an oasis for homeless men, women and children seeking survival services.

The Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of Loaves & Fishes’ fundraising including but not limited to: Appeal Letters, Grants, United Way, Major gifts, Special Events, and Capital Campaigns. The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and works with the Board of Directors in development and fundraising endeavors. The Development Director oversees and supervises a small staff and performs the following functions:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct the annual funding program, including mailings, fundraising drives, oversees grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements
  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective two-way communication
  • Direct capital campaigns, coordinate special events and all other fundraising drives
  • Oversee fundraising/donor database and tracking systems
  • Work and coordinate with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Program Directors
  • Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about Loaves & Fishes with the community
  • Coordinate external communications including website updates and Facebook
  • Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies
  • Develop a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors
  • Staff the Board Philanthropy Committee meetings
  • Supervise and collaborate with other development staff
  • Perform all other facets of fundraising duties as required
  • Identify and implement fundraising software

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of fundraising experience, and excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills required. Must embrace the mission of Loaves & Fishes. Candidates should display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, “follow-through,” and good listening ability. Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers. Ideal candidates will be “self-starters” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls, and have the desire to go into the community and build/cultivate external relationships as needed.
