Full-Time 5th-8th Grade Teacher

Mustard Seed School, a program of Sacramento Loaves & Fishes, has an opening for a teacher serving students in fifth through eighth grades. Mustard Seed is a free private school for children experiencing homelessness. We provide temporary, emergency schooling and seek to provide warmth, nurturing, safety, and structure within an academic environment.


  • Be Flexible.
  • Be compassionate, professional, and respectful.
  • Plan and implement daily lessons for students in grades 5-8.
  • Maintain clean, safe, nurturing classroom environment.
  • Assist with student academic assessments and maintain accurate records.
  • Be attentive to the “whole child” and meeting physical and emotional needs.
  • Advocate in the community on behalf of children experiencing homelessness.
  • Assist with transportation of students in school vans.
  • Plan age-appropriate field trips.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, including but not limited to attending weekly staff meetings, retreats, and special events.
  • Must have CA Driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must be willing to be fingerprinted and background checked and maintain a current TB test.


  • Classroom experience with a wide range of ability levels.
  • Commitment to working with children and families experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to collaborate with volunteers and co-workers in the classroom.
  • Willingness to use positive discipline techniques.
