Physical Education & Kindergarten Teacher

Mustard Seed School, a program of Sacramento Loaves & Fishes, has an immediate need for a full-time teacher to lead our morning physical education program (grades preschool through 8th) and to teach our afternoon kindergarten program. Mustard Seed is a free private school for children experiencing homelessness. We provide temporary, emergency schooling and seek to provide warmth, nurturing, safety, and structure within an academic environment. This is a full time position (7:30 am to 3:30 pm M-F) including medical & dental benefits.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pick up students experiencing homelessness for school and drop them off.
  • Plan and teach physical education classes for Pre K- 8th grades.
  • Plan and teach our afternoon Kindergarten program.
  • Create daily lesson plans and develop strong classroom routines.
  • Take a leadership role in meeting the needs (physical, emotional, and academic) of the students in your care.
  • Maintain accurate records on student progress; keep a portfolio for our files.
  • Use appropriate positive discipline techniques.
  • Meet and communicate with parents.
  • Participate in teacher meetings.
  • Direct the work of classroom volunteers.
  • Coordinate field trips and special events.
  • Be responsible for keeping classroom spaces clean and organized.
  • Represent Mustard Seed at community events, talks, fundraisers, etc.
  • Advocate for children in homelessness as the need arises.
  • Plan and take the lead in running our school summer program for grades K-8.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have experience working with children.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Prior experience in Montessori education preferred but not required.
  • Must be flexible, compassionate, professional, and respectful.
  • Livescan background check required.
  • Must have a California driver's license and a good driving record, and be willing to transport students in our school vans.
