One of our guests taking a moment of respite in the Dining Room.

Thanksgiving is almost upon us and I can’t help but think about our homeless guests. Most of us will have a festive and filling day, but not everyone. Can you imagine having no family, no food, and no-where safe to be on this special day?

Sadly, here in Sacramento, there are more men, women, and children, who have lost their homes and are forced to live outside in the elements than ever before.

I anticipate that there will be well over 1,000 homeless men, women, and children to welcome for Thanksgiving this year. I need your help to make sure there is enough food to go around.

Please help us provide a Thanksgiving feast for our guests. You can drop off fresh turkeys, canned yams, dinner rolls, and pies at our drop off center, which is open Monday through Friday from 7am-3pm at 1351 North C Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.

Any help that you can provide is critical and appreciated. If you can’t do the shopping you make a donation online at

I’m insistent about this because I can’t stand to see anyone suffering.

Let me tell you about one such person you can help.

Elizabeth is a frequent guest of Loaves & Fishes, who has mental health symptoms and a certain honesty when she speaks.

She pulled me aside recently, gave me a hug, and said, “thank you, I’m not sure what I would do without you and everyone here.” She continued, “Actually, I do know what I would do,” becoming tearful, and describing some very difficult days and harsh realities that people face when experiencing homelessness.

I am inspired by Elizabeth’s strength to survive.

No one should have to go hungry, especially on Thanksgiving Day. I know you feel the same way and I need your help to provide for everyone, like Elizabeth, that needs it. For many, the holidays can be a very lonely time, but we can give them a glimpse of the better days that lie ahead.

Please make a donation, so that we can ensure everyone gets the food, warmth, support, survival services, and respect that they need during the holidays.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, please know that I am thankful for your support. I am thankful that you are a part of this community. And, I am thankful that you care enough to make a difference.

Gratefully and sincerely,

Noel Kammermann
Executive Director
